The man's body was recovered from Great Egg Harbor River in the Mays Landing section of Hamilton Township about two hours after he disappeared on Sunday, reports said.
The drowning victim has been identified as Carlos Alvarado of Hammonton, authorities said.
Alvarado's body was recovered at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Atlantic County officials said in a statement.
Canoes and kayaks are allowed to travel though that part of the Atlantic County Park System, but swimming is prohibited, signs warn.
The park is off of Route 559, just north of the Black Horse Pike.
ABC 6 Action News reported that the Atlantic County park has attracted many bathers during the heat wave, even though signs in Spanish and English warn against swimming.
The depth of the river drops off fast, and currents are strong, park officials said.
The county park was closed on Monday, but re-opened to the public on Tuesday.
